Exciting plans are steaming ahead for the new performance choir, Sounding It Out, starting on Feb 23rd. Below is listed all current information, and I would be grateful if you could let me know if you are interested in coming to the preliminary meeting on Mon Feb 23rd.
We will sing at 3-4 gigs between May and July, and will decide at our 1st meeting whether to go to Dentdale in May for a European choirs festival, and/or exchange with a choir in Berlin in late June, early July. (Sarajevo link didn’t work out). We may also be singing at the South Bank, London.
Gigs booked so far:
Sat 16 May: Stourhead Festival of the Voice
Fri 22 May: Party in the City, opening of the Bath International Festival
Sat 13 June: Hopes and Homes for children Charity Event, Bathford
Aims for Sounding it Out:
to work on perfecting music, pushing our musicality to a high level and being exciting and interesting to watch and listen to
to impart enjoyment and infectious enthusiasm to our audience
to perform at a mixture of local gigs and some further afield
to create links with choirs abroad and in UK to support peace and environmental initiatives be dynamic
These are the musical criteria I am looking for:
Hold a harmony part on your own
Learn a song quickly
Good stage presence and enjoy performing
Flexibility about which part you sing
You will be expected to attend at least 3 out of 4 rehearsals and gigs from March 9, do some work at home and learn the words off by heart.
We will sing a range of songs - world music, including songs from UK, some modern songs, several of my arrangements. inspiring/ philosophical. We will be learning some of Singing in the Round’s repertoire, and some new more challenging songs. With some of them, there will be chance to sing solos, and with some we will experiment with different ways to interpret the song, co-create the final version. I will provide notation for those who want it, or you will be able to download your part on MP3 from the new and technically state of the art Singing in the Round website (up and running in week beginning 16th February)
Rehearsal dates, all at Bearfield Church hall Huntingdon St, Bradford on Avon BA15 1DQ
Mondays Feb 23, March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 20, 27
May 11, 18, June 15, 22: provisional, according to our progress, and dates of gigs
Cost: £42 (£30 concessionary rate based on need) for sessions March 9 to 27 April. £28 for 4 provisional sessions if they all happen
First meeting:
Mon Feb 23rd 7.30-10pm . Donation of £3 to cover costs
7.30-8.30 - Talk about details of choir, meet each other.
8.45-10 – informal group audition. This will include some members of the old Singing in the Round performance group.
