Candy's Allsorts

Members of the Performance Group had a meeting in July and agreed the following:
The Performance Group per se will close this summer. However, rising from the ashes will be a new performance-based choir called Candy's Allsorts
This will be open to everyone to apply (not just Singing in the Round) though I anticipate it being largely drawn from SinR with a similar repertoire.
We will practice from late February to July, once a week on a Monday evening hopefully in Bradford on Avon, dates to be announced. We aim to do 3 – 4 gigs between May and July, plus the exciting prospect of singing at the Sarajevo Music Festival in July 09.
I anticipate 20 – 40 participants, with a balance between the voices.
I envisage this group as:
• Dynamic
• Working on perfecting music, pushing our musicality to a higher level and being that much more interesting to our audience
• Imparting all the enjoyment and enthusiasm we achieved in SinR/Performance Group performances
• Performing some local gigs
• Creating links with choirs abroad and in UK to support peace and environmental initiatives
Criteria for joining:
These are the musical abilities I am looking for –
• Hold a harmony part on your own
• Learn a song quickly
• Good stage presence and enjoy performing
• Flexibility about which part you sing.
I will be doing a group audition workshop for new members. For harmony singing, you need to hear how people’s voices blend with each other.
I anticipate most people will be offered a place but I may offer suggestions to some who I think need to improve some aspects of their voice.
I will have CD and repertoire ready beginning of February. As a choir member, you will need to commit to:
• Attend at least 80% of rehearsals
• Learn music by heart
• Practice with CD on your own beforehand so that in the rehearsals we can really polish our sound. This will make them much more fun. They won’t be note bashing.
The cost will be the same as for Singing in the Round, payable in advance.
